JO 2007: I am the gayest girl ever but my people don’t see me. Not at the bookstore, coffee shop or ladies night. Because of my Femme identity my own people trivialize my place in our community. I frequently have to defend my queerness when others are just beat into the gang for life one time. And because much of the straight world assumes I am like them, some openly express sick ignorance. So I fight a million silent wars a day. I fight for my people. I live my life out loud. I sit on 15th imbibing the finest ladies walking by, one in particular taking my breath away. I own my hunger and prowess. It puffs my chest.
