LINDSEY & TINA, 2005

OAKLAND, CA

LINDSEY 2011: I came to Mills College during the Spring 2005 semester on domestic exchange from Mills’ sister school in Boston, Simmons College. Mills and the Bay Area was unlike anywhere I had ever been—eucalyptus and grapefruit trees scenting the air and fog thick as meringue. I went to huge themed parties, art exhibit openings, shows, readings, museums, taco trucks, and City Lights! And the people! I met other people like me; artists, writers, musicians, queers, fat girls, working class kids, spiritual people. And I met my best friend—someone who made me feel like there was a place in the world for me. Now I am living in the Bay Area and finally feel a sense of home that I was always looking for. The Spring 2005 semester was life-changing and I am so honored to be part of this photo collection and to remember such a significant turning point in my life.
